Position Title:  Compliance Officer
Position: Full-time, benefited, exempt
Location: Anaheim, CA
Reports To: President

General Job Responsibilities:       

Reporting directly to the SBU President, this senior level position supports all SBU locations and campuses by advising the University’s administrative and academic leadership on all compliance matters and serves to promote a culture of ethical behavior and compliance.  The Compliance Officer conducts ongoing compliance monitoring/investigations and develops and implements legal risk and compliance management programs.  Working with SBU’s administrative leadership, the Compliance Officer helps to ensure that all SBU campuses possess the information and tools needed to maintain an effective compliance program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an SBU Compliance and Ethics Action Plan governing University operations.
  • Ensure the organization’s governing authority and administrative leadership are knowledgeable in content and operation of the compliance and ethics program and exercises reasonable oversight.
  • Establish standards and procedures to prevent and detect non-compliant, unlawful or criminal conduct.
  • Conduct effective education and training programs and disseminate information  as appropriate.
  • Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the compliance and ethics program through periodic risk assessment.
  • Develop regular monitoring and auditing processes to track compliance with policies, procedures, laws and regulations, including those related to accreditation,  state education requirements and risk assessment.
  • Issue reports for referral of matters to the appropriate officer and ensure that appropriate corrective action and, if necessary, disciplinary action is taken in the event of non-compliance.
  • Identify potential compliance vulnerability by working closely with the University’s administrative leadership.
  • Establish mechanisms for regular assessments of the compliance function and other tools for campuses and/or units to facilitate compliance.
  • Perform or coordinate general or targeted compliance reviews in consultation with administrative leadership.
  • Prepare regular reports for management summarizing compliance status, and necessary changes.
  • Conduct on-site interviews and reviews and extract data, as necessary for compliance reviews.
  • Conduct research and keep current on key compliance issues affecting higher education.
  • Other Duties as Assigned by the SBU President.
  • Some Out-of-state travel required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master Degree or higher from an accredited institution in the field of law or education
  •  At least three years of progressively responsible experience in the field of
  • Compliance in BPPE and accreditation.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and collegially with all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated exceptional written communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated diplomatic skills working with key stakeholders, including senior officials
  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct and ethics
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of Microsoft products and other technology skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to higher education strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with higher education accreditation
  • Familiarity with BPPE regulations
  • Experience in a comparable position in a College, University, or University  System Office.

Acupuncturist

Duties: Consult with patients to obtain the medical history and current symptoms that require treatment. Use knowledge of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine to diagnose condition and plan treatment. Select and insert fine needles into the skin at appropriate acupuncture locations to treat patient’s physical and emotional conditions. Incorporate other types of traditional Oriental medicine as needed.

Requirements: Master’s Degree in Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine and valid California Acupuncture license
