ANAHEIM CLINIC
Eddie S. Hong, LAc, MS, OMD, QME Eddie S. Hong has
been a part-time supervisor at the Anaheim Clinic since March, 2003,
and has been teaching the Acupuncture Technique class since January,
2006. He graduated from SBU in May, 2000 and received his Acupuncture
License (L.Ac.) in California on January, 2001. His experience as
an Acupuncturist includes working at the Gilbert Medical Center
in Garden Grove, and at the Vineyard Injury Center which has five
branches throughout LA and Orange counties. Most of the patients
he treats are worker’s compensation patients with workplace injuries
including low back pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, and knee and
ankle pain. In these settings he works in an integrative medicine
clinic with medical doctors who refer frequently for pain and muscle
spasm treatment. From this experience he became very interested
in the field of pain treatment (syndrome). He has applied his treatment
methods to patients and enjoys educating medical doctors, acupuncturists
and students at South Baylo University Clinic regarding these treatments.
He is currently enrolled in the OMD program at SBU. Credentialed
for the treatment/management of patients referred by Kaiser Permanente
Medical Group and experienced in Worker's Compensation cases. A
graduate of South Baylo University with experiences in private practice,
he specializes in pain control with acupuncture treatments.
Junfeng
Xi, LAc, BM (China), OMD Junfeng Xi has been employed at
South Baylo University since 1998 as a Supervisor and instructor.
In 2004 she became Associate Professor of Oriental Medicine and
in 2006 she graduated from the SBU OMD program. She has taught Acupuncture
Principles, Acupuncture A, B, C & D, Acupuncture Techniques
A & B, Acupuncture Theory/Therapy A & B, OM Principles and
OM Principle III in the Master’s program, and Patient Counseling
in Doctoral program and has supervised interns in the clinic. Prior
to coming to SBU she worked at the Yunnan Institute of Traditional
Chinese Medicine. She was an Attending Doctor and Director of Department
of National Medicine Research, member of Academic Committee and
member of the committee of Professional Qualification Evaluation
at Yunnan Traditional Chinese Medicine Institute, Director of the
International Association of Integrated Medicine (USA), Director
of Trace Element Association of Yunnan, member of Natural Dialectics
Research Committee of China Science and Technology Association,
member of Traditional Chinese Medicine Association of China, member
of China Research Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and
Western Medicine and member of the Acupuncture Association of China.
She has published over twenty papers, books and monograghs. She
is currently Investigating a two case studies treating Fibromyalgia
and Diabetic Retinopathy through the use of Oriental Medicine and
teaching classes in the Master’s program as well as the Doctoral
program.
Sheng Li, LAc, BM (China), MS, OMD Sheng
Li has been employed at South Baylo University since 2003 when he
became an assistant to the Director of Clinics. In 2004, after he
acquired his L.Ac. and because he had over five years of treatment
experience from China (dating from 1997), he became a supervisor
at the SBU Anaheim Clinic. He also became the CCE Coordinator in
2006 to help coordinate the CCE I and II exams and became Associate
Chair of the Acupuncture Department in 2007. He teaches Oriental
Medicine Principles, Acupuncture Principles and Acupressure/Tui
Na in the Master’s program.
Pia Melen, L.Ac, MS,
OMD Pia Melen came to the United States in 1990, when she
started working at Bicore Monitoring Systems, testing and calibrating
pulmonary monitoring devices. In 1995 she transferred to Bear Neonatal
Systems which specializes in adult, pediatric and neonatal ventilators.
While working in this field she became interested in the Acupuncture
program at SBU and in 1993 she became a full-time student and graduated
in 1997. After acquiring her license (L.Ac.) in 1998, she started
working in an Acupuncture Clinic. She became involved in alternative
medicine multi-disciplinary treatment working at the Laguna Hills
Chiropractic Center treating work related back and neck injuries
in 2001. Since 2005 she has been employed at South Baylo University
as a clinic supervisor. Her current interests are in Energetic Medicine.
She currently teaches the Practice Management and Ethics course.
Graduated from South Baylo University, she has extensive experience
with intergrating Oriental Medicine with other primary healthcare
modalities. She strongly believes in the mind/brain and body as
a whole and complete system, where the mind/brain triggers specific
responses in the body, and vice versa. With patient counseling as
adjunct therapy, in addition to acupuncture and Oriental Medicine,
she takes a different approach for pain control, stress relief,
and healing, and has had many positive responses.
Sandjaya
Trikadibusana ( Tri ), LAc, MD (Indonesia), MS, PhD. Sandjaya
Tri graduated from the Medical School in Indonesia and practiced
at Public Health Center and the Private Hospital in Family Medicine
for ten years. Teaching at the Nursing School for five years, conducting
comparative studies on endemic goiter and hypertension in adults
and clinical study on the conservative treatment in patients with
ileus, published the article in the Indonesian National Health Journal
in Indonesia, and having the training in minilaparatomy for tubectomy
in Indonesia. He also graduated from Samra University, Oriental
Medical School in 2000 and since then practicing as licensed Acupuncturist
associated with Medical Doctor in integrated medical care for 5
years. Attended the extensive program in clinical setting and involved
in research study on cardiac autonomic neuropathy at Rancho Medical
Center, Downey, CA. Obtained PhD degree from Yuin University, School
of Oriental Medicine in 2004 with topic of dissertation on retrospective
study on the effect of acupuncture in patients with arterial hypertension.
Prior to being employed at South Baylo University, worked as part
time instructor at Samra University. Since November 2005, he has
been a full time faculty member of South Baylo University, worked
as a clinical supervisor and instructor in teaching Eastern and
Western medical subjects. He has interest in clinical training
and bedside teaching with future goal in Geriatric Medicine and
clinical research study. Currently, persuing the DAOM program at
SBU.
Yuri Ovchinnikov, LAc, MS, PhD Yuri
Ovchinnikov has been employed at South Baylo University since 2005
as a part time Clinic Supervisor. In 2007 winter quarter part time
teaching a class “Acupuncture A”. At the same time he has a private
practice in his “Clinic of Traditional Chinise Medicine” in West
Hollywood. He works like contractor and acupuncture consultant in
“Back pain chiropractic clinic” in Santa Ana as well. Prior to
that he was a visiting scholar in USC in Los Angeles. And has worked
in Academy of Sciences in Russia and People’s University in China.
Currently he takes classes in the OMD program at SBU. Graduated
S-Petersburg University, Russia, and obtained a Ph.D. from the Academy
of Sciences in Moscow, Russia. Two years of field research experience
in Beijing, China. Received a M.S. degree in Oriental Medicine from
Emperor's College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Santa Monica,
California. His specialty lies in the treatment of musculo-skeletal
disorders, and geriatric conditions.
Sung In Cho,
LAc, MS, OMD In December, 2004, Sung In Cho was appointed
the Herbal Pharmacist of Herbal Pharmacy at South Baylo University,
Anaheim. She currently teaches the identification of herbs/herbal
categories and the preparation and decoction of the herbal formulas
in the Herbal Pharmacy to interns. She received her California acupuncture
license (L.Ac.) in January, 2000. Prior to coming to SBU she worked
as a managing pharmacist in oriental & western pharmacies in
both the U.S. and Korea where she ran a pharmacy for 20 years from
1979 to 1999. She has worked in the Research Center at SBU and taught
Herbal Prescription from 2000 to 2002. She has also taught general
Biology, Herbology and Herbal Prescription D in the Master’s degree
program.
Yae Jin Chang, LAc, MS After graduating
from Seoul National University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees
in sports medicine and sports rehabilitation in early 2003, Yae
Jin Chang worked extensively with Korean National athletes at the
Korea Institute of Sports Science (KISS). Upon graduating from South
Baylo University, he continued to work with professional athletes
with injuries using acupuncture and related modalities. In addition
to sports injuries, his specialty includes treating infertility
patients, where acupuncture and herbal therapeutics are prescribed
as adjunct therapies with patients undergoing IUI or IVF procedures.
Yae Jin Chang is currently a clinic supervisor in the Anaheim Clinic,
and a faculty of the Oriental Medicine Department, where he teaches
Oriental Medicine Principles and Oriental Medicine Diagnosis courses.
Sang
Jo Kim, LAc, MS Graduated with the Master’s degree in Oriental
Medicine at South Baylo University in 2000. He has been actively
involved in volunteering to provide acupuncture treatment and has
been to many countries such as Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan,
Mexico, and Russia, to provide medical treatment for the people
who are in desperate need. He currently has his own practice in
Huntington Beach, and is working as a part-time clinic supervisor
at South Baylo University Clinic in Anaheim. He is credentialed
for the treatment/management of patients referred by Kaiser Permanente
Medical Group.

ANGELES CLINIC
Suh Kyung Kim, LAc,
MD (Korea), MS, OMD Suh Kyung Kim has been employed at South
Baylo University since 2001 when he became part time instructor
in Western medicine. In 2004 he became a full time instructor of
Western Medicine and is currently Associate Chair of Biomedicine.
In 2006 he received OMD degree from the S.B.U. while holding a Master’s
from South Baylo University and he was California Acupuncture Board
Licensed (L.Ac.) and received the Diplomate in AOM (NCCAOM) in 2001.
He attended Medical School at Chonnam National University in Korea
and received the MD license in Korea in 1967 after graduating. He
received an Otolaryngologist license in Korea (1972). He became
Dean of Otolaryngology at the Korea 101 Army hospital (1973-1974).
He was also Dean of Otolaryngology at Korea Capital Army hospital
(1974-1975). Dr. Kim operated Otolaryngology clinics in Seoul and
Kyung Kee, Korea from 1975-1997. He taught intern and resident rotations
at Korea Capital Army Hospital (’74-’75) and lectured in Otolaryngology
at Korea Han Yang University (’90-’95)
Yong Wu,
LAc, BM (China), MS, OMD Yong Wu is a California State licensed
acupuncturist and has been employed at South Baylo University since
1995. She studied Oriental Medicine at the Zhejiang College of Traditional
Chinese Medicine in China in1983 and became a medical doctor there.
She obtained her Master’s of Science degree from Emperor’s College
of Traditional Oriental Medicine in 1995 and became Chinese Language
Program Director at SBU at that time. After years of teaching and
guiding students in classes and clinic, she pursued her Oriental
Medicine Doctoral Degree at South Baylo University and obtained
it in 2006. Currently she is the Chinese Program Student Advisor,
Clinic Supervisor, Associate Chair of Herbal Department, and Instructor
of Herbology and Internal Medicine at the LA campus.
Jae
Jong Kim, LAc, MD, MS, OMD Jaejong Kim has been employed
at South Baylo University since 2001. He has been a licensed Medical
Doctor in the states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, teaching Medical
students and resident physicians of the University of Michigan at
Ypsilanti Regional Psychiatric Hospital for over 21 years. He did
a post-doctoral fellowship at Duke University in the area of geriatric
psychiatry in 1972 and 1973. He did a research program for the evaluation
of the Senior Friend Model Program in the State of Ohio and presented
a paper at the scientists conference of the Gerontological Society
in New York in 1975. He ran the 200 bed Medical Division of Ypsilanti
Hospital as a director, supervising 11 medical doctors, 195 nurses,
3 dentists and 2 pharmacists. He teaches the Medical Terminology
and the History of Medicine for the Korean and English programs
at the LA Campus and he has taught Anatomy and Physiology A, B,
and C both in Korean and English. In the OMD program he teaches
the Clinical Neurology, Longevity and Geriatrics, Public Health
courses. He is currently an associate clinic director of LA clinic
and teaches classes in the area of Neurology and Geriatrics.
Ali
Nematbakhsh, LAc, MS, OMD Ali Nematbakhsh was an electrical
engineer for 20 years, holding both Bachelor and Master’s degrees
in Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona in 1975 and 1976. Soon after
graduating from the Master’s degree program in AOM at SBU in 1999,
and receiving the Clinic Award, he became a Clinic Supervisor in
2001. As well as being a Clinic Supervisor in LA, he teaches OM
Principles, Acupuncture Principles, Acupuncture A, B, C, Acupuncture
Modalities, and OM Internal Medicine A, B, C. His specialty is in
pain management and he supervises students using a results oriented
hands-on approach in the clinic. His clinical interests are in the
treatment of Bell’s Palsy, Sciatic Pain, and Migraine Headache.
Hyun Mi Koh, LAc, MS, OMD Prior to her education
at South Baylo University in 1995 she has a vast medical background
as a registered nurse in the fields of gynecology, surgery, ophthalmology,
and E.N.T. for 8 years at the College of Nursing in Korea. Since
she came to the United States in 1983, she obtained a nursing license
from California and worked at Temple Community Hospital till she
became a graduate of SBU in 1997. She has been a clinical supervisor
and a teaching faculty in the area of Herbology, covering Herbal
Principles, Herbal Prescription, Herbal Practice, and Patient Management.
She has received Ph.D. in Asian Medicine from American Liberty University
in 2003 and OMD degree from SBU in 2006. She published an Atlas
of 63 Herbal Formulae. She extends her services to the underprivileged
and medically needed people in foreign country and here in this
country as a short term medical missionary. She also has graduated
from the University of Theological and has strong compassion in
medical mission. Her hobbies are sport dancing, Korean Drum dancing,
Hand crafts in clay work, and singing in a choir.
Chul Hahn, LAc, MS, OMD Chul Hahn
has been employed at South Baylo University since 2005 when he became
a Clinic Supervisor and Student Services Coordinator at the SBU
LA site. In 2006, he added the title of OMD student advisor. In
2007, he became a full-time faculty member. Prior to coming to SBU
he was a clinic practitioner of Dowoni Acupuncture Clinic from 2003
to 2005. It was one if the first pediatric Oriental medicine and
acupuncture clinics in the U.S. He also was a practitioner at Smile
Acupuncture Clinic as a nose specialist. He has edited journal articles
for “Chungwon” as a chief editor. He graduated from the Doctorate
program at South Baylo Univeristy in 2006. he participated as a
member of the board of Sasang Constitutional Medicine in Korean
Oriental Medicine Academy, The Institute of Korea Oriental Distilled
Medicine and International Oriental Medical Research Institute.
He has completed the course of Oriental Medicine, Western Medicine,
Alternative Medicine, Ungichim Acupuncture Technique, Tmsarang,
Meridian Kinesiology, and Ultra Sound imaging. He has attended several
International Conference and Congress of Oriental Medicine. He has
an interest in integrated medicine, which is the diagnosis as Western
medicine and treatment as Oriental Medicine. He has served as Vice-President
of South Baylo University’s Alumni Association. Currently, he teaches
Acupuncture Modalities at SBU.
Qui Sheng Geng, LAc,
BM (China), MS, OMD Qui Sheng Geng has been employed at
South Baylo University since 1997. He works as a full-time instructor
and clinic supervisor. Prior to coming to South Baylo University,
he worked as a Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor, teacher, and
research at Anhui Traditional Chinese Medicine College and hospital
for ten years. He taught Oriental Medicine Principles, Acupuncture
Principles, Acupuncture, Oriental Medicine Diagnosis, Oriental Medicine
Nutrition, Acupuncture Techniques, and Acupuncture Theory/Therapy
at South Baylo University. As a clinic supervisor, he specializes
in pain management and has supervised students in a result oriented
hands-on approach. He has an open dorr policy inviting students
to ask questions about any subject. He has worked successfully in
protocols to treat many kinds of pain such as headache, hypochondriac
pain, shoulder pain, sciatic pain, as well as gastric and skin problems.
Han Ki Kim, LAc, MS, OMD Hanki Kim has been
a Clinic Supervisor at South Baylo University since 2004. He received
his Master’s degree in Acupuncture from South Baylo University
in 2003, and later obtained his Doctorate of Oriental Medicine in
2006. Dr. Kim has successfully in research in subject such as ADD,
Infertility, Seizures, Bell’s Palsy, Pain Control, and Psychological
problems. From 2003 to 2006, he worked as an acupuncturist at First
Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. Prior to coming to South Baylo
University, he worked as a researcher for over ten years in Korea.
Ke Lan Liu, LAc, MD (Korea), MS, OMD, Ke
Lan Liu, she graduated from Shen Yang Oriental Medicine University
in China in 1966. She had served as instructors and supervisor at
the Shen Yang University Clinic. After she moved to the USA,
he started to work at South Baylo University since 1979. She graduated
from Oriental Medical Doctor in 2006. She mainly researched as a
practically treatment such as research for herpes zoster treated
by Fire Needles and Gua Sha treatment. She has been treated many
patients. Recently she has been studying about symptoms of Qi stagnation.
She is teaching Acupuncture Theory and Therapy A and B, and supervising
interns at the South Baylo University Clinic.
Sung
Woon Tae, LAc, MS, OMD He has been working from 1998 at
SBU, and he is currently SBU LA Clinic Supervisor. He is currently
teaching acupuncture principle. He is currently researching Principles
of Universe related with Oriental Philosophy – a connection with
Universe Principle Theory and acupuncture theory effecting to human’s
physiology.
Rak Wan Choi, LAc, MS, OMD Choi,
Rak Wan, he graduated from South Baylo University (M.S.O.M.) in
2002, and received NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) in 1999. After graduation, he
received his acupuncture license from California in 2003. Since
2003, he has been working as a clinic supervisor at SBU clinic in
Los Angeles. He continued his education at the South Baylo University
to receive his OMD degree in 2006. At the clinic he has been
supervising interns and researching about traditional acupuncture
technique, right-and-left relative needle law and Dong Xi acupuncture
technique to substitute for practical treatments. He specially treated
patients who have shoulder pain, lumber pain, sciatica and Bi-syndrome.
Also he has been studied for herbal formulas after Dang and Song
Dynasty to substitute for Bi-syndrome, liver and stomach disease,
vascular disease and so on. He is enrolled in KLSA (Korean Literary
Society of America) as a poet. He published many poems through the
seasonal journal of KLSA.
Yeung H. Kwon LAc, PhD,
OMD Yeung H. Kwon L.Ac., PhD, OMD has been employed at South
Baylo University since 1997 as a professor in the School of Oriental
Medicine. For the past ten years he has taught hundreds of students
in this institution and has remained a dedicated member of the faculty
over the years. He had a great deal of experience through teaching
both Korean and English classes, focusing exclusively on English
classes from 2004 to present. Professor Kwon graduated from
Emperor’s College of Traditional Oriental Medicine and received
his license in 1994. Prior to his position at SBU, Professor Kwon
also taught at Kyung-san University, Samra University, and Emperor’s
College. Over his thirteen year career, Dr. Kwon amassed a plethora
of knowledge in his field, and has become an accomplished doctor,
professor, and researcher. He has written a pedagogical manual to
Oriental Medicine, Applied Oriental Medicine, Clinical Approach,
developed a clinical video series “14 Channel, 361 Primary Meridian
Pathway”, and assisted in compiling information for “Qpunture
V.1.0, A Complete Acupuncture Reference Guide”, a software reference
guide. Dr. Kwon is currently practicing in a number of locations
in Los Angeles County in addition to teaching at the university.
He is also part of the Medical Staffs of the Sherman Oaks Hospital
Health Center and the Olympia Medical Center, and is deeply involved
in Oriental Medicine research.
Deuk Shin Jang, LAc,
BM(China), MSOM, MBA, OMD Deuk Shin Jang graduated from
Heilongjiang University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China,
earned Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1999. He
earned his Master Science of Oriental Medicine at South Baylo University
in 2001. In 2007, he earned his Master of Business Administration
at California University of Management and Science. In 2008,
he earned his doctoral degree of O.M.D. at South Baylo University.
Currently, he is working as a supervisor at Clinic and Herbal Pharmacy
Department at South Baylo University Los Angeles Clinic. His
goal is to help advance Asian Medicine to the general public in
California.
